Everything you never wanted to know about 70s typewriters
Link

If this whole typewriter controversy is not the most absurd thing to occupy the media during the most important presidential election of our lifetime, than I guess I haven't been paying attention. Feel free to use the comments to suggest more absurd stories.

The funniest/saddest thing is that media outlets (NPR, NYTimes) that are supposed to be better than this started running with a story based on discussions on freerepublic.com and littlegreenfootballs.com and repeated the idiocy that one could exactly replicate the documents using Microsoft Word. The big discovery of these idiots that was repeated by the media without any sort of fact-checking: that Times New Roman on Word looks the same as Times New Roman on a typewriter. To which I say, "duh".

It is nice to see that fonts are getting there day in the sun. I for one was overjoyed to learn that Times New Roman has been around since 1931. And that Garamond has been around for centuries! That's awesome, right?

Anyway the best stuff to read about this right now is over at www.dailykos.com in the recommended diaries, here.

What this whole broo-ha-ha does show is that the Republicans are still very good at making up shit to distract people from attacks on them and how the mainstream media is still acquiescent to this sort of thing. Why can't we be good at this? Should we even try? Discuss.

I guess if us democrats hadnt uncovered a bunch of forged documents to start, this ridiculous waste of media time wouldnt have happened to begin with...now we have to live through this mess as the media is distracted. hopefully we live and learn.
